Dust Bath

I photographed this single Horned Lark as it took a dust bath in the sand along Mizzy Lake Trail in Algonquin Park in early October. Many birds and mammal species take dust baths to clean feathers or fur and to remove parasites. The Horned Lark is the only true lark of the North America. This is a very large crop (~25% of full frame) but I think that it held up well enough to show some of the sand flying.
